What Does Praise
God Mean?
To praise God means:
>> to give thanks to God for what is
done
>> to worship God for who He is
Psalms 67:3 - 5
Let the peoples praise You, O God; Let all the peoples praise You.
4 Oh, let the nations be glad and
sing for joy! For You shall judge the people righteously, And
govern the nations on earth. Selah
5 Let the peoples praise You, O God; Let all
the peoples (the Igbos, the Ogonis, the Yorubas, etc) praise You.
The Wonders of Praise
1. To beautify God
Psa 50:23a Whoever offers praise glorifies (cause
to seem more splendid or big or beautiful) Me; And to him who orders his
conduct aright I will show the salvation of God."
2. To receive
revelation of salvation/deliverance.
Psa 50:23b
Whoever offers praise ... And to him who
orders his conduct aright I will show the salvation of God." E.g. Solomon.
3. To provoke
elemental forces to cooperate for increase.
Psalms 67:5-6
Let the peoples praise You, O God; Let all the peoples praise You. 6 Then
the earth shall yield her increase; God, our own God, shall bless us.
4. To have sweatless victory.
1Chro 20:22-24
- Now when they began to sing and to
praise, the LORD set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount
Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated. 23 For the
people of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir to
utterly kill and destroy them. And when they had made an end of the inhabitants
of Seir, they helped to destroy one another. 24 So when Judah came
to a place overlooking the wilderness, they looked toward the multitude; and
there were their dead bodies, fallen on the earth. No one had escaped.
5. To possess
the labour and wealth of the Gentiles
1 Chro 20:25 And
when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found
among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels,
which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and
they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much.
6. To turn 'not
enough' to 'more than enough' (five loaves for five thousand people)
Matthew 14:15-19 When it was evening, His
disciples came to Him, saying, "This is a deserted place, and the hour is
already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages and
buy themselves food." 16 But Jesus said to them, "They do
not need to go away. You give them something to eat." 17 And
they said to Him, "We have here only five loaves and two fish." 18
He said, "Bring them here to Me." 19 Then He commanded the
multitudes to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two
fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the
disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes.20 So they all
ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that
remained. 21 Now those who had eaten were about five thousand men,
besides women and children.
7. To perfect
miracles received
Lu 17:17-18 And Jesus answering said, Were
there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? 18 There are not found that
returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.
A Sacrificial
Praising
1Ch 16:29 Give unto the LORD the glory due
unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship
